Crash driver tried to kick cop on motorway

- CHRIS TAYLOR

A car crash driver booted a cop and tried to pull another officer into his wrecked motor while it blocked a motorway lane.

Alex Kazanski, 26, threatened to bite officers who rushed to help him when he was stranded on the M898.

He refused to leave his car and bawled: “I’m not going with you – f**k off.”

Kazanski admitted police assault and resisting arrest during a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Laura Wilcox told how police found him in his stricken motor near the Erskine Bridge.

She said: “He had some blood on his head.

“Officers approached and were trying to speak to him.

“He was asked to open the driver’s door but refused.

“PC Brian Glennie was able to reach in the window and open the door and asked Kazanski to step out the vehicle.

“He became agitated and angry. “He was tensing his body while still sitting in the driver’s seat.

“Officers were of the view, given the vehicle being in a live lane on a motorway, where traffic flow as moderate, that, for the consideration of everyone, he should be removed from the vehicle.

“They took hold of him in an attempt to secure him.

“He immediately started struggling violently.

“He was repeatedly kicking out and struck PC Cheryl Mooney to the right leg.

“He was lashing out with his arms and legs towards both officers.

“Kazanski grabbed hold of PC Brian Glennie’s radio and body armour, leaning back and pulling him into the car.

“At this point, he was threatening to bite PC Glennie and was continuing shouting and acting aggressively.

“He was shouting, ‘I’m not going with you – f**k off.’

“He continued to struggle violently and as subsequently restrained on the ground.

“Other officers were requested to attend to provide assistance.

“Kazanski continued in this aggressive manner, shouting and swearing and making repeated threats to bite officers.”

Cops found Kazanski in the driver’s seat of the Grey Mazda 6 hatchback between Paisley and Erskine.

The car had visible damage and was blocking a lane in the early morning rush.

He was asked to get out but refused.

He turned nasty after police tried to help him off the carriageway.

Officers had to call for back-up when he turned violent around 7am on June 22.

Defence lawyer Nadine Dormer claimed her client was manhandled by officers.

She said: “Mr Kazanski apologises to officers for his behaviour that morning.

“This was a distasteful incident. “Matters escalated quite significantly.

“After being pulled from the vehicle and placed in the prone position, he did have a lot of bruising.

“He says he was kicked in the testicles in relation to this.”

The court heard Kazanski had been in employment but was made redundant last year.

He is dad to a two- year- old daughter and has been with the same partner for a decade.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew slammed the lout for his behaviour and called for reports.

He said: “Your actions went way beyond what could be thought to be a legitimate complaint.

“You grabbed an officer, pulling him into the car and continued to threaten to bite people and kick and lash out.

“They went way beyond what I consider an appropriate way to remonstrate.”

Kazanski, Gowanbank Gardens, Johnstone, has been ordered to return for sentencing next month.
