Charity’s work hailed
A Paisley councillor has praised volunteers and staff at Who Cares? Renfrewshire for the way they are “inspiring young people”.
Councillor Carolann Davidson has shown her support for the local branch of a national organisation dedicated to working with young people in care.
The Paisley East and Central representative spoke out after Who Cares? Scotland held a rally in Glasgow to raise awareness of the need for a lifetime of love, equality and respect for care experienced people of all ages.
Councillor Davidson said:“I love working with the young people and the staff at Who Cares? Renfrewshire.
“I find it extremely motivational as the young care experienced workers and volunteers have overcome such tremendous obstacles to be where they are today.
“They are doing an amazing job of inspiring other young people in all forms of care and they are educating our communities to make us all understand what it is to be looked after.
“Through their education programme in schools across Renfrewshire they are changing opinions and helping make life better for looked after children in our education system.
“I would encourage everyone to seriously thinking if they could give up a couple of hours of their time to volunteer at one of the many groups that Who Cares? runs locally. You will get more back than you give.”
Reflecting on the rally, she added:“I was delighted to have been invited and I loved taking part.
“The whole atmosphere was amazing. Even members of the public, when learning what the rally was for, joined in and marched with us.
“At George Square there were some amazing brave people sharing their experiences both locally and from as far away as the care system in Australia.”
