Clark’s challenge to Renfrew ahead of Arthurlie showdown

- BEN RAMAGE

Renfrew manager Colin Clark is challenging his players to take the game to the opposition when they face rivals Arthurlie today.

‘Frew have been struggling for form, drawing their only game of the month against Cambuslang Rangers 2-2.

Clark hopes they can take advantage of Arthurlie’s poor run of form when they host Duncan Sinclair’s side at New Western Park.

“We’ve got to take the game to them,” he told Express Sport.

“We need to impose ourselves more on the opposition and make our own stamp on the game.

“They’re struggling for results at the moment but we’ve hardly been setting the heather alight ourselves.

“They’ve got aspirations of getting back into the Premiership and have got some great players so we’re expecting a tough game.

“We’ve had a good look at them this season already and we know what they’re about.

“We’ve got to be aware of their quality to make sure we can arrest our own poor form.”

Renfrew’s clash with Shotts Bon Accord last Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

And while it allowed ‘Frew to get some playes fit again, Clark admits that has put some more pressure on his third-place side with fellow title rivals Darvel and Cumbernauld both adding three points.

He said: “We didn’t expect it to be called off to be honest. But we had a couple of injuries so it helps us to get those back.

“It’s put a wee bit more pressure on us with them picking up wins.

“But nothing is won in October. It’s a long season ahead and it’s up to us to get back to winning ways.

“We’ve got to be within striking distance heading into the new year.”
