Steven’s new TV drama sure has plenty of bite

Paisley writer Moffat teams up with Sherlock partner for new terrifying BBC series

The writing talents of Paisley’s Steven Moffat have been put to work yet again to help bring a chilling horror series featuring Dracula back to TV screens.

The 57-year-old’s latest project – which is an adaptation of the Bram Stoker classic – was announced this weekend with a hotly anticipate­d and eerie trailer.

The series will soon be coming to screens thanks to a partnershi­p with the BBC and Netflix.

A trailer for the upcoming horror series co- created by the Paisley writer and his fellow Sherlock producer, Mark Gatiss, promises to spook viewers.

The trailer features bats swooping outside a castle, a hand covered in blood and nuns clutching stakes.

In the clip, Dracula whispers to a trembling man: “Try and stay calm, you’re doing very well.”

The series was announced last year and the BBC said at the time it would “reintroduc­e the world to Dracula” the vampire who “made evil sexy”.

The countdown is on to this year’s Paisley fireworks spectacula­r.

The event takes place this Saturday, November 2 with the skies set to be lit up above Paisley Abbey in the town centre.

Gus from Pulse FM will welcome the crowds with music and banter from 6.30pm before the 20-minute-long fireworks display starts at 7pm.

This year’s event will be set to a soundtrack of popular 90s classic hits.

Moffat, 57, is best know for his work on the BBC’s acclaimed Sherlock series, staring Benedict Cumberbatc­h as well as Doctor Who.

The former Camphill High pupil then continue with the town’s Christmas Lights switch-on on Saturday, November 16.

There will be plenty of Christmas family fun including the popular Santa parade in the town centre, Christmas choir concerts, Santa’s Grotto and much more.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy exciting street artists, fantastic performanc­es on the live stage and even head along to the festive roller disco.

The festive fun will also extend across Renfrewshi­re with Christmas Lights helped revive the long-running sci-fi classic in 2004 but stepped away from writing the show in 2016.

Dracula will premiere on BBC One in the UK and on Netflix outside of the UK and Ireland.

An official release date is yet to be announced. switch-ons in Renfrew on Saturday, November 23 and Johnstone on Saturday, November 30.

The town centre also sees the return of the WinterFest event from November 23 until 30 December, run by Paisley First, featuring an outdoor ice rink, LEGO Paisley Penguin Parade Trail and plenty of festive fun.
