Business Salon team make the cut for hair and beauty awards

-

Staff at Paisley hair salon are hoping they’ll be a cut above at an upcoming awards night.

Kaoss Hair Salon on Gauze Street could bring two titles from the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards back to Paisley.

Salon manager Stephanie Thomson is in the running for Stylist of the Year while the salon is also nominated for Neighbourhood Salon of the Year.

Stephanie said the first she knew of her nomination was when the competition organisers, Creative Oceanic, got in touch.

She said: “I received a letter telling me I’d been shortlisted then another one saying I’d made it to the final.

“The organisers phoned the salon to get all my details and ask for supporting photographs of my work.

“As far as I know three clients nominated me.

RENFREWSHIRE GOES TO WORK

“The competition also has a mystery shopper who comes in and reports back. I’m the only one from the west of Scotland in the category.

“It was only when we went on the website that we saw the salon had also been nominated for Neighbourhood Salon of the Year.”

Stephanie has done some charity work through the salon and she believes this has helped her nomination.

“I cut hair for the homeless last Boxing Day at the Renfrewshire Helping Hands event.

“I also organised a charity event in February which was for Renfrewshire Helping Hands and Women’s Aid. “I love doing it.”

Kaoss Hair Salon, which employs three stylists and two juniors, won the Best Salon in Renfrewshire Award at the inaugural event last December.

Stephanie added: “The Stylist of the Year Award is the big one, it’s an individual one. That’s us been in for three awards in the space of a year and we’ve won the first.”

She added: “I trained as a barber when I was 17 then I came away from it, and four years ago I came back to the hair industry at Kaoss.

“I really enjoy it. I couldn’t sit behind a desk all day, I like being active and on my feet.

“I like chatting to the clients as well. “We get their life stories and I like that, I like working with the public. “You build up friendships.

“We took some clients with us to the Renfrewshire Business Awards.”

The Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards are on Sunday, December 8 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

Other Renfrewshire businesses in the running include Gemma Lowe

Hair, Elysium Beauty, Annemarie O’Donnell from Class AA Hair, Claire Beckett of Bombshell Beauty, Nik Makeup Artist, Marr Beauty and Julie Bain Permanent Cosmetics.
