Mum hit by car as she pushes baby in pram

-

A mum was left with a fractured knee after she was hit by a spinning car while pushing her newborn baby.

The 33-year-old was walking with her daughter in Elderslie on Monday evening when they were struck by a motor.

It’s understood the car hit a learner driver in an Audi and spun at the junction of Thorndene and Main Road around 6.25pm, clipping the mother and pram.

Emergency services raced to the scene, with witnesses describing seeing several police cars, ambulances and fire engines.

The mum suffered a fractured kneecap in the accident while the tot, who is just months old, was unhurt.

Police shut the road for several hours and diversions were put in place.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:“Police and other emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic accident in Main Road,

Elderslie at around 6.25pm on Monday.

“A 33-year-old pedestrian was pushing her young daughter in a pram when she was struck after two cars collided.

“The woman suffered a leg injury in the incident. The road was closed as officers carried out investigations. We are treating the incident as a genuine accident.”

Meanwhile, cops are probing a break-in at Caledonia Pavers in Renfrew.

The unit in Meadowside Street was targeted between 4.30pm on Friday and Monday at 7am.

A laptop was taken during the raid.

The same site was also broken into twice last year.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:“If you saw or heard anything suspicious in Meadowside Street over the weekend we would like to hear from you.”
