Leave a legacy and help look after our veterans

-

Erskine is encouraging Express readers to give it a boost and think about leaving a legacy.

The ex- servicemen and women’s charity says that by leaving Erskine as little as one per cent of their estate, people will be helping to care for Scotland’s veterans and their families.

A spokesman said: “Legacies help us provide specialist nurses and equipment and to extend our recreational programme to benefit all our veterans.

“Independence is precious to the people we care for and your gift can help us purchase physiotherapy equipment which allows greater access to mobility.

“It also helps pay for our activity centre, which helps support younger veterans living in the community, by offering them companionship and the opportunity to learn new skills.”

The Paisley Daily Express told recently of the kindness of the late Michael O’Donnell that led to five veterans moving into new accommodation in the Veterans’ Village on the Erskine Estate, Bishopton.

The new assisted living apartments were partly funded by a substantial legacy left to Erskine by Mr O’Donnell.

Erskine cares for nearly 1,000 residents each year. Its care homes provide veterans with the companionship of like-minded people.

The charity says its personcentred care is tailored to the needs of each individual veteran. All bedrooms open to a general living space with dining areas and are fully accessible with ensuite facilities.

The dedicated activities team provide social activities, entertainment and organise day or evening trips which are of huge importance to residents’ health and well-being.
