Make new pals at Tannahill’s family Halloween night

- ALISON RENNIE

Head along to Ferguslie Park this Halloween for a frighteningly good night of fun.

The Tannahill Centre has teamed up with community group Pals of the Privies for a fun celebration for all the family tomorrow night.

It all starts at 6pm at the Tannahill Centre, in Blackstoun Road, where children can collect the lanterns, LED umbrellas and sun and moon masks which they made over the October school holidays.

Then at 6.30pm, everyone will set off for a light parade from the centre down to Glencoats Park, which is also known as the Privies.

Volunteers will have the park ready for children and young people to explore with a few good scares, games and treats to discover.

Then everyone is invited back to the Tannahill Centre for warm food and refreshments as well as a Halloween disco and best costume competition.

Karen Campbell, chair of Pals of the Privies, said it’s the second time the two groups have teamed up for a Halloween event and they’re hoping it’ll be another success.

She said: “We had more than 400 people there last year, it was mobbed. The weather was terrible but it’s meant to be dry this year so we’re hoping for another good turnout.

“We’re going to have a light experience at the park with a smoke machine and the trees all lit up and people hiding in trees.

“Last year we had more people than we were expecting so this year we’ve bought £500-worth of sweets to make sure we’ve got more than enough.

“The whole reason why we do it is Halloween is such a big expense for families now. It’s turned so American. People are going out and spending a fortune on costumes and sweets.

“We wanted to be able to have something where people can have fun for free and it’s a bit safer than chapping people’s doors.

“People have told us it saves them a lot of money and all the kids are going to the one place.”

Jamie Ma l l a n , b u s i n e s s transformation manager at the Tannahill Centre, said: “We are working with the Pals of the Privies to hold a Halloween celebration in Ferguslie park on Thursday.

“Children made masks, lanterns and LED umbrellas over the October school holidays in the Tannahill

Centre with artists and staff from Create Paisley.

“The event is free and open to children and young people of all ages.”

Head along to the Tannahill Centre from 6pm on Thursday evening to join in the fun.
