Wife fled home after husband attacked her in front of children

- RON MOORE

A wife fled her home in terror after her sozzled husband attacked her in front of their young children.

Hospitality worker Grz e g o r z Je m i o l e k , 38, attacked waitress Alelksandra during a drunken rampage at the family home which left both his partner and their children distressed and crying.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Jemiolek had been drinking heavily when his partner and the children returned to the family home at Ferry Road, in Renfrew, late in the evening on September 29.

Procurator Fiscal Depute Tanjeel Maleque said: “The witness returned with the children at 10.50pm after having been out at a friend’s house.

“Upon entering the accused became verbally abusive calling her a ‘bitch’ and alleging that she was a bad mother.

“His partner and the children became upset due to the manner of his behaviour.

“He was shouting at her. He grabbed her by the shirt and pulled her backwards.

“She put her arms up in an attempt to get free of the accused. When he let go, she left and went into the common close with the children.

“The accused continued to shout and swear and act in an aggressive manner.”

The c o u r t h e a rd Alelksandra banged on a neighbour’s door shouting for help and asking them to call the police.

The prosecutor added: “She was extremely distressed and was crying. When police arrived they saw the her and the children in the common close, who were crying and in a distressed state.”

Yesterday Jemiolek appeared in the dock and pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that he shouted, swore, behaved aggressively and pulled at his partner’s clothing during the incident.

Defence agent Matt Lynch said: “It is quite clear he had been drinking. He reacted badly when his wife returned home with the children.

“He knows it was his fault and he pleaded guilty immediately to the offence.”

The lawyer said his wife and children are prepared to take him back into the family home.

Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill said: “You are a first offender and have not appeared at court before, but this behaviour is completely inappropriate.

“This was a terrifying experience not only for your partner but also for your children.”

She said she was prepared to “draw a line” under the disturbance and fined him £530.
