Take a seat and enjoy a chat and a massage

-

Shoppers who sit in the new Chatty Chairs at intu Braehead are in for a pampering treat.

For an hour every Monday in November, staff from the Lush handmade cosmetics store will give a free hand and arm massage to anyone sitting in the special seats.

The Chatty Chairs are in the upper mall and are positioned to make it easy for shoppers to start a conversation with someone sitting next to them.

Signs at the chairs read: ‘ Take a seat if you don’t mind having a chat’.

They were introduced in a bid to tackle loneliness and isolation.

Scotland’s Finance Secretary Derek Mackay, pictured talking to 79- year- old Ina Sellars, from Paisley, launched the initiative earlier this month.

The move comes after the Age Scotland charity revealed that 282,000 older Scots feel lonely some or most of the time.

The free massage sessions will take place on November 4,11,18 and 25 for an hour between 11am and noon.

Lush store supervisor Kimmy Arnold said: “We thought the Chatty Chairs was a fantastic idea and it’s a lovely way for people to start talking to each other. We thought it would be nice if we could add to the experience, so we decided to offer free hand and arm massages to give those sitting in the Chatty Chairs a little bit of pampering while we talk to them.”

Lydia Brown, intu Braehead’s community development manager added: “Our Chatty Chairs have been very well received and this is a wonderful gesture from Lush. I’m sure the hand and arm massage will be appreciated by anyone sitting in the Chatty Chairs.”
