Accord welcomes a ship-shape donation

- KENNETH SPEIRS

A bumper £2,000 cheque has been handed over to one of Paisley’s favourite charities.

Glasgow Freight Club, in partnership with KC Group Shipping, held a fundraising lunch in memory of late managing director Raymond Clarkson and the cash was given to Accord Hospice.

The event was held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow, with more than 100 guests attending the inaugural Raymond Clarkson Lunch.

Friends, colleagues and business partners were entertained by top comedian Scott Agnew.

A seven-day holiday to Majorca, donated by KC Group Shipping, was raffled off, giving a huge boost to the fundraising tally.

“Glasgow Freight Club and KC Group Shipping wish to express sincere gratitude to all attendees who dug deep on the day, supporting a wonderful cause in memory of a special friend and colleague,” a spokesman said.

“Accord is a fantastic local charity whose work has been seen first hand by members of the KC team amongst many others in the Glasgow freight community.

“We have seen them provide valuable care for friends and family members over the years, as well as providing counselling for those who may need it after losing their loved ones.

“They are, therefore, very worthy recipients of the money raised at this year’s lunch.”

Accord expressed its gratitude for the generous donation.

“The hospice wants to thank all of those at the Glasgow Freight Club for such a generous donation from the event, every donation we receive makes every moment count for our patients and their families,” a spokesman said.

Accord, which was founded in 1982, aims to provide to the communities in Renfrewshire with high-quality specialist palliative and end-of-life care.

It says none of this would have been possible without the ongoing support of individuals, local groups and businesses.
