Par-fect result for builder
A housing developer’s plans to build ten homes on land at Renfrew Golf Club have been given the green light.
Ambassador Homes will demolish two houses at the site and build a small development within the grounds.
The blueprint received 107 letters of support and no objections, before being backed by councillors on Tuesday.
Letters of support said the proposed development would raise funds, which would help in retaining jobs and delivering enhanced facilities for the club.
The residential development will be located on a triangular site east of the existing car park and southeast of the clubhouse.
The area is currently used as storage and includes semi-detached properties, which are both empty and derelict.
The new houses will be two-storeys in height, while plans are in place to upgrade the car park.
To accommodate the development, around 45 trees will need to be removed. However, none of these are protected by a tree preservation order.
Fraser Carlin, the council’s head of planning and housing, recommended that councillors grant planning permission.
The planning report noted: “Overall, the proposal is considered to be an attractive development of ten dwellinghouses which will benefit from a good landscape setting, future links and through connectivity to neighbouring sites, and is in close proximity of a good quality public transport corridor.”
However, Mr Carlin did attach a number of conditions to the application. One of which included carrying out an ecological survey before felling any trees.
The reason for this is to safeguard any bats and other protected species that may be affected by the proposed development.
Councillors approved Ambassador Homes’ planning application at the Communities, Housing and Planning Policy Board.
