Terrified daughter fled home after yob’s drunken rampage

- RON MOORE

A foul- mouthed yob trashed a family home, forcing his daughter to flee in fear.

Peter Young, 45, sparked mayhem at the property during a drunken rampage after he had been out drinking in the town.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Young had been picked up by his 20- year- old daughter and brought back to the house at Montgomery Avenue, Gallowhill, when all hell broke loose.

The woman was forced into making a quick exit with a pet dog after Young began smashing up the house.

Prosecutor Tanjeel Maleque said: “The accused had been out consuming alcohol between 4pm and 7pm. He returned at 7.30pm after asking the witness to pick him up.

“On returning, the witness heard shouting coming from downstairs and went to see what was going on.

“The accused was behaving in an aggressive manner.

“The witness took the family dog and went upstairs.

“The accused proceeded upstairs and demanded the witness contact the accused’s partner. The witness refused to do this.

“At this point, an argument ensued and the accused began punching doors in the house.”

The court heard Young damaged the bathroom door, threw his mobile phone and the house phone at a door which the witness hid behind, as he trashed the house.

The prosecutor added: “As a result of this, the witness took the dog and left the locus due to the risk to her safety.”

When police arrived, Young made homophobic and hateful remarks at officers.

He struggled during his arrest and branded one cop a “p***” and a “p*****”.

He appeared in the dock before Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill where he pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, behaving in an aggressive manner, throwing household items around, causing damage and making homophobic remarks at police during the incident on July 13.

Defence agent Paul Lynch said Young was “extremely apologetic and remorseful” over his behaviour, which had been fuelled by drink.

Sheriff Gill told him: “You are 45 years of age. You really ought to know better. You should be setting an example, rather than behaving as you did.

“As for your comments made to police officers, I can’t believe you used those comments in 2019.”

She handed him a £720 fine.
