Obika then found himself tearing through on goal after expertly collecting an excellent long pass by Sean McLoughlin. His shot lacked the pace to seriously trouble Fraser Forster, but the signs were increasingly encouraging for the travelling Buddies.
St Mirren’s poor defending at corners almost reared its ugly head again as Christopher Jullien found himself unmarked in the six-yard box from McGregor’s setpiece. Thankfully, for the Saints, his header wasn’t as accurate as Gary Dicker’s in their previous outing against Kilmarnock.
St Mirren broke on the Hoops defence once again shortly after and Durmus picked out Paul McGinn. His shot flashed wide from a promising position.
Obika was putting in an assured performance up front on his own, linking the play well on several occasions. He helped the Buddies win a free kick wide on the right, which, although over hit by Durmus, almost found its way into the net, with Forster having to deal with it as it sailed towards the top corner.
Durmus spurned a great chance when he broke into the Celtic half after turning the Hoops midfield.
Flynn came to the Saints’ rescue after 37 minutes when he cleared Jullien’s powerful goalbound header from a corner off the line.
Next to come to the visitors’ rescue was Hladky as he clawed Forrest’s powerful close-range drive onto the post.
While St Mirren’s goal lived an increasingly charmed life towards the break, they did manage to get into the interval level
