Bully who abducted wife jailed

A jealous husband who threatened to kill his estranged wife during a 13- mile terror drive has been jailed for 42 months.

Paul McKinney, 52, flew into a rage and forced Louisa McKinney, 54, into his car because he believed she was cheating on him.

The couple had split the previous week after 16 years of marriage.

Sheriff Johanna Johnston QC told McKinney: “Abusing, assaulting and terrorising someone is the type of behaviour that the court takes a serious view of.”

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Louisa had rekindled a friendship with former schoolmate Kenny Carrigan.

McKinney, of Renfrew, found the pair together at Mr Carrigan’s flat in Glasgow’s Drumchapel in May and took his wife hostage while screaming at her: “You are f*****g dead.”

He forced his hysterical and barefoot victim into his motor, telling her: “You are coming with me.”

Carrigan: “I am going to do her and I am then coming for you. You slept with her.

“I knew there was something going on.”

Minutes earlier, he had smashed his estranged wife’s car windscreen.

Then he drove erratically through the streets of Renfrewshire and only stopped when he crashed.

He pled guilty to abducting Louisa as well as behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

As he drove over the Erskine Bridge, McKinney refused to let his wife leave.

However, Louisa managed by phone to alert her sister, who called police.

McKinney, meantime, insisted Louisa “won’t be here much longer”.

The ordeal only ended when McKinney crashed into a pole near a farm in Linwood.

He then clambered out the car, burst into tears and claimed he was going to kill himself.

McKinney fled the scene when police arrived, but was traced the next day.

The court was told traumatised Louisa suffered bruises on her face and body.
