OAP’s terror after she found brazen thief in her bedroom

Cops hunt crook who made off with woman’s jewellery

- DAVID CAMPBELL

A 70-year-old woman came face to face with a thief as he ransacked her bedroom.

The terrified pensioner went to investigate a noise in her Calside Court home and found the crook going through her jewellery box.

She confronted the suspect during the incident, which happened around 4pm on Thursday, but he made off with nearly £1,000 of gems.

Police revealed a similar incident was reported just half an hour later when a 53-year-old woman found a man standing in her bedroom at her Union Court home.

He made off empty-handed after claiming he had made a mistake.

Officers probing the incidents say the victims have been left badly shaken.

They believe the same man could be responsible for both crimes and warned people to be vigilant.

Sergeant Stevie Airlie, from Paisley’s community policing team, said: “These were clearly very distressing incidents for the victims.

“On both occasions the householder has come face to face with a complete stranger standing in their bedroom, which must have been very frightening.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to come forward to police.

“Officers are carrying out a number of enquiries in relation to these incidents, including checking CCTV.

He added:“I’d also like to ask homeowners to always make sure their doors and windows are locked - even if they are at home at the time.

“Please report any suspicious behaviour, particularly around the homes of elderly people or supported accommodation. It may turn out to be nothing but it is best to have it checked out.”

Cops are also investigating after A cruel crook stole a three figuresum of cash from a vulnerable 90-year-old woman after talking his way into her Paisley home.

The callous yob targeted the OAP at her retirement house in Glentanar Court between Friday,

February 7.

Police revealed the bogus caller was able to get inside the woman’s house and steal cash before making off from the scene.

Cops say a very similar incident was reported the day before in the town’s Rowan Court.

A thief got into a 71- year- old woman’s home between 11.30am and 12.30pm while she was inside.

A three-figure sum of cash was stolen from the victim’s handbag.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

I’d ask homeowners to always make sure their doors and windows are locked, even when they’re home
