Stars are shining over the community

-

The head of St Mirren’s charity foundation has said the response to her drive for vital donations has been immediate and overwhelming.

Chief executive of the trust Gayle Brannigan launched an appeal for people to leave food at their doorstep that she would collect and deliver to the vital Star Project which is delivering to those most in need during the coronavirus outbreak.

She told the Paisley Daily Express: “I put out an appeal through social media and almost within minutes I was getting people reaching out.

“I was out picking up from outside houses throughout the area and over the weekend. The response was so overwhelming.”

Gayle urged people to take five minutes to look in their larder to see what they might be able to give away.

She then asked people to get in touch to arrange a suitable pick up time.

Shops including Tesco and The Company Shop, in Renfrew, have both stepped up with substantial donations.

The St Mirren Charitable Trust is working with a range of third-sector organisations and charities including Eat Up and the Star Project to ensure the most vulnerable people in Paisley and Renfrewshire do not go without vital supplies during the pandemic.

The Star Project delivered a staggering 207 bags of food/essentials to 247 people last week alone. Shops throughout the region have been supporting the cause.

Gayle added: “I would urge anyone who can to please donate to Star Project. Maybe consider buying an extra Eatser egg to bring some joy to a child who might otherwise go without.

“These are incredibly challenging times for everyone but amazing community organisations like the Star Project and Eat up are really stepping up and being counted and we want to use our network to support them as much as we can.

“Please if you feel there is any food or supplies you might want to donate, please get in touch and we can arrange a time to pick it up from your door.”
