Kibble makes appeal to join in its battle against coronavirus

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Specialist care charity Kibble has launched an appeal for help to fill crucial child and youth care-worker roles.

With the UK currently in a lockdown period due to Covid-19, workers across the country have lost their jobs, are taking unpaid leave or have been placed on furlough, with many looking for new career paths in the care industry.

Kibble is looking to fill a variety of positions necessary to care for its children and young people, expanding its workforce to fill emergency roles as staff are required to self-isolate.

The Paisley charity and social enterprise provides essential care and education for children and young people from the age of five through to 26, many of whom have experienced adversity or trauma.

Kibble is calling for people from all walks of life to get in touch and find out more about the essential care roles, building on its pre-existing development programme which provides extensive training on working with young people.

Recent recruits on the programme include a former lifeguard, restaurant manager, personal trainer, florist, mechanic, builder, construction work and social science graduate – demonstrating the variety of experience deemed as beneficial to the role.

Jim Gillespie, CEO of Kibble, said: “As people across the country are in lockdown, unfortunately people have found themselves out of work. However, what is clear is that many are looking to give back and help during this crucial time.

“Providing care and a safe home for young people who are vulnerable is more important than ever, and we’re calling for those who can help to get in touch and allow us to ensure we’re in the best possible position to provide that service.

“Across Kibble we have care staff who have come from a wide variety of sectors and we find that quite often people don’t realise they have the skills and the understanding that it takes to become a great carer for young people.

“The health and well- being of the children and young people in our care is our priority and our staff are critically important to us.”
