Green light for car sales yard

- STEPHANIE BRAWN

Plans to turn a former Renfrew dairy site into a car sale yard have been given the green light by council chiefs.

The proposals for Hope Dairy, in Paisley Road, were lodged by its owners, the Lamont family, after permission was granted to demolish the buildings in 2018.

In recent years, the firm has suffered a decline and has mostly supplied milk to restaurants and shops as the popularity of doorstep deliveries has slumped.

The site will now be transformed into a storage yard for the sale of cars after council bosses gave the go- ahead last week, subject to conditions.

In a letter confirming planning permission had been granted, the council said: “It is considered that, given the current circumstances of the site in terms of use and location, the proposal would not result in any significant detrimental impact in terms of residential amenity.

“In terms of traffic and road safety issues, the director of environment and communities has raised no objection to the proposal.

“The proposal is found to be acceptable.”

A design and access statement said no part of the storage yard would be visible from the main road and access to the site would remain unchanged.

The statement also said limited customer traffic is expected, with traffic mainly coming from people viewing and collecting cars between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

The proposed pedestrian access to the yard is also via the gated lane adjacent to the property, segregated by a fence.

The yard will incorporate a small parking area.
