Charity has it covered as it delivers vital face masks

-

A Muslim charity has delivered around 1,000 face masks to key workers and GP surgeries as the country braces itself for the peak of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The generous donation was given across Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board area, which covers Renfrewshire, by relief group Al-Khair Foundation.

The personal protective equipment is being hand delivered to GP surgeries, police service and staff working in the foodbanks and soup kitchens.

The charity has also been working hard out on the streets making food and delivering packages to vulnerable people and the elderly.

Tall Haq, from AKF, said:“We have been working extremely hard here in the office trying to create food hampers and deliver essentials to people’s doors, but we then realised that GP surgeries and key workers are running seriously low on face mask supplies.

“We have now started to collect and donate as many face masks as we can to the local doctors and nurses, as well as to our key government workers who are out in public every day.

“Face masks are a necessity today as it can help to stop the spread of the virus, so we feel it’s important that we try our best to source them and reduce some stress on the NHS.

“It is a very uncertain time for all of us and we know that anything can happen in the next few weeks, but we will continue to do everything we can to help.

“We will keep delivering food and water to those who are most vulnerable, keep our food bank running and we will keep trying to source more and more masks and distribute them accordingly.”

The AKF relief effort is part of a national operation in providing shopping, medication collection and delivery, healthcare advice and offering friendly phone calls to alleviate loneliness during the period of social distancing and isolation.

AKF founder and chairman Imam Qasim added:“We are launching our £1million appeal to respond to pandemic impacted people both in the UK and globally.

“We will be working with communities and governments to put plans together to deal with crisis situation and assisting them with aid supplies and more importantly medical support.”
