Midfielder Newton was the fourth player of the afternoon booked, Niall McGinn his victim with nine minutes remaining.
Saints skipper Jim Goodwin also entered the ref ’s notebook for a foul on McGinn, before Newton found McGowan with a great pass and the former Celtic star picked out ‘Isma’ in a great position 12 yards out- but Langfield was determined to block his shot.
