Soap-er stars deliver toiletries to help patients

Caring couple drop off donations to hospital, care homes and hospices

- ALISON RENNIE

A couple have swapped pet pooches for shampoo and soap as they step up for hospital, care home and hospice patients.

Chris and Frank Adamboyd run Woofwoof Daycare in Paisley and saw their business grind to a halt with the coronavirus pandemic.

They heard from a friend who works in a hospital that patients are missing out on things like soap, deodorant, toothpaste and shampoo because they are no longer allowed visitors who would typically bring these things.

Frank said: “It got us thinking that we could collect some things and take them up to the hospital.

“We put a post on our local Facebook group, I Belong to Shortroods, and it just went mad!

“We had so many people wanting to help, my hallway was full of bags. It looked like a branch of Semichem!

“Hats off to the NHS and everything they do but they don’t supply nice toiletries, everything is very basic.

“Hospital isn’t the best place to be at any time never mind with everything that’s going on just now.

“We thought this was a way we could do something to help and make a difficult time a bit nicer.”

Several of Chris and Frank’s neighbours have made toiletry bags to hand in and Sharon Dennison, the community champion at Morrisons in Anchor Mills, has also been a big supporter.

There are now trolleys set aside in both Paisley Morrisons stores as well as Johnstone, for people to drop off donations.

So far they’ve made trips to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Accord and St Vincent’s hospices and care homes around Paisley.

They’ve contacted each place in advance to arrange the drop offs and make sure they abide by the current social distancing guidelines.

Frank said he and Chris are happy to keep collecting and dropping off donations for as long as it is needed.

“As long as we need to, we’ll keep going,” he said.

“Our work has pretty much stopped. “We still look after a couple of dogs whose owners are key workers but we have the time to do this.

“We have been really touched by how many people want to help.

“It really goes to show people do care.” Frank said they’re particularly keen to get hand sanitiser but would welcome all unused and unopened toiletries.

Either drop them off at the trolleys inside one of the three Morrisons supermarkets or message them via their Woofwoof Daycare Facebook page at facebook.com/Woofwoofdaycare
