CARE HOME BLAZE KILLS OAP, 66
Victim pronounced dead at the scene
A 66- year- old man has died in a horror care home blaze.
Emergency crews rushed to reports of a fire at Parkhouse Manor Care Home on Wednesday night.
Police yesterday confirmed the pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.
A major investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the fire.
Outbuildings at the Parkhouse Road site, which is run by the Laurem Care Group, were taped off as officers carried out a search of the area.
A blue and white tent has also been erected close to one of the
buildings.
It’s understood Scottish Fire and Rescue ( SFRS) crews raced to the Barrhead home just after 8pm to reports of a fire.
A passerby described seeing at least four police cars and one fire engine outside following the tragic incident on Wednesday.
Detectives and specialist investigators from the SFRS will work together to find out what happened.
Detective Sergeant Emma Patrick, from Greater Glasgow CID, who is leading the inquiry said her thoughts were with the man’s family following the incident.
She said: “Around 8.10pm on Wednesday, April 8, officers were called to a nursing home in the Parkhouse Road area of Glasgow following reports of a fire.
“A 66-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
“A joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be carried out to establish the full circumstances.”
The man has not yet been identified by the authorities.
Parkhouse Manor Care Home was acquired by the Kane family’s Laurem Care Group in 2015 and is home to around 50 elderly residents.
Anyone with information on the fire should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
