It takes a lot of bottle to help lifeline workers

Beauty firm’s moisturiser handed out in the community

Beauty bosses have it covered when it comes to providing skin relief for frontline NHS and care home workers.

Renfrewshire firm Professional Beauty Systems have produced 30,000 bottles of specially-labelled bottles of moisturiser dedicated to workers tackling the coronavirus crisis.

The firm’s bosses have generously donated the mulberry and pomegranate quality moisturiser in tribute to the army of healthcare heroes and key workers, acting to save lives and protect the community during the Covid-19 outbreak.

With thousands of people working gruelling shifts while wearing masks, gloves and goggles to limit the spread of exposure to the virus, the skin product will come as a much sought after relief after hours of using PPE and endless rounds of handwashing.

Paisley shopkeeper and community champion Rekz Afzal has teamed up with PBS bosses and Renfrewshire’s Health Care and Social Partnership to distribute the cream.

The moisturiser is also going to hospitals and care homes across the health board area in Renfrewshire, Glasgow and beyond.

Rekz, 35, said the item will be available at his shop, RSA Newsagent and Grocers, in the town’s Moss Street for collection by healthcare staff.

The product is not for re-sale and is dedicated to the people tackling the crisis. It will be handed out only to those involved in frontline professions.

Rekz said: “It is a truly an amazing gesture in recognition of what NHS, care home staff and key workers are doing during this time.

“Wearing PPE has a damaging effect on the skin and PBS have produced the moisturiser with these wonderful workers in mind.

“The firm got in touch with me to help hand out the moisturiser to deserving people because I have strong links with Paisley and the Renfrewshire community.

“I have been working with Provost Lorraine Cameron in arranging this as and we are delighted to be involved in helping so many dedicated people.”

Professional Beauty Systems, in Inchinnan, has already donated much sought after hand sanitiser to the critical care department of Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Lisa Kerr, head of marketing at PBS, said: “Professional Beauty Systems are producing 30,000 specially-labelled bottles of Crazy Color mulberry and pomegranate moisturiser and are donating them as a small goodwill gesture to NHS key workers who are affected by the damaging effects to the skin from PPE and constant hand washing.

“Our staff worked for free to produce the product and the labels were kindly donated by Macfarlane Labels Ltd.”

Provost Cameron added: “This is wonderful. For weeks Rekz and I have been working on getting donations, such as toiletries, for staff at the RAH. Professional Beauty Systems has gone even further and made 30,000 bottles of moisturiser for all our NHS workers.

“It is simply fantastic and will be warmly appreciated by the nurses and staff, who are doing so much right now, working in very difficult circumstances, for the benefit of us all.”

Rekz said he has already had nurses and care home workers getting in touch on social media, asking how to pick up the skin relief product.

A form for collection has to be signed off at the shop or each hospital and care home by a member of staff on receipt of the moisturiser.

The items cannot be resold on any selling platform such as eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree etc.
