Deaths at care home

-

Three pensioners have died of suspected coronavirus as a second Renfrewshire care home confirms residents are ill with the disease.

Mosswood Care Home, in Linwood, said three of its residents have died in recent weeks, while a further five are displaying symptoms of Covid-19.

One care worker at the Moss Road facility has tested positive for the virus and another three are selfisolating at home.

Pacific Care, which owns the home, said it had informed the victims’ families.

The Care Inspectorate has also been informed of the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

A spokeswoman said: “Mosswood Care Home have had two or potentially three deaths connected to Covid-19.

“As no care homes are yet being tested and death certificates are not yet completed by relevant parties, we cannot say for sure if it was Covid-19 or other palliative issues that caused the residents to pass.

“We presently have five residents who are displaying some, or similar, Covid- 19 symptoms, and are currently being barrier nursed.

“Of these five residents, two are well on the way to recovery.

“We have one staff member at Mosswood Care Home who previously tested positive for Covid- 19, and has recovered and returned to the workplace, and a further three isolating at home.”

News of the deaths comes just days after Elderslie Care Home, Paisley, confirmed 11 of its residents have passed away from the disease since the start of April.

A further 13 residents were also showing symptoms of the virus at the Fulbar Road facility as of Thursday morning.
