FIGHTING FOR LIFE

COPS LAUNCH INVESTIGATION AFTER MAN STRUCK BY CAR IN PAISLEY

- DAVID CAMPBELL

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was run over in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 34-year-old is in a critical condition after he was struck by a car in George Street, Paisley, around 12.45am.

Detectives initially thought the man had suffered wounds before being hit by the VW Golf but they now believe all his injuries were caused by the accident.

He was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where he was operated on by medics.

Officers probing the incident are trying to identify a second man who is believed to have been with the 34-year-old when he was hit.

The second male, who was wearing grey clothing, left the scene before emergency services arrived.

Specialist road collision experts sealed off the road yesterday as they scoured the area for clues.

They are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as they try to work out how the man came to be on the road before he was hit.

Sergeant Jon Mochan, Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: “Our previous appeal mentioned injuries that may have been sustained prior to the collision, however, following an update from medical staff, it would appear that all injuries were sustained as a result of him being struck by the car.

“The response from the public this morning following our earlier appeal has been good, however, we still need to find out where the man had been prior to the incident and who he was with just so we can piece together his movements and confirm why he was on the road.

“The second man, who was wearing grey clothing, left the scene before police arrived.

“If you were in George Street and saw the two men or have any dash cam footage from there, or know where the man had been earlier that night, then please get in touch.
