Scrum on down and we’ll treat you to a fish supper

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Paisley Rugby Club has delivered again – this time off the pitch – as they dropped off fish suppers to delighted sheltered housing residents.

Members are used to scoring on the pitch but they picked up major brownie points from people living at Linstone Housing’s Newton Street complex when they popped in with some tasty treats.

Many of the people living there hadn’t left the house since the coronavirus lockdown was put in place, so they were delighted with some socially distanced conversation through a window.

Members of the club’s Touch Rugby section organised the drop off, which was kindly supported by Sandro’s Fish and Chip shop in Johnstone.

Resident Margaret, 93, was delighted with the gesture and the chance for some new company.

She said: “I haven’t had a treat like this in a long time. It was nice to see new faces too”.

She then went on to add that she would love to come and see Paisley play and that she was looking forward to seeing some “big, strapping handsome men” in the hope she can bag one for herself.

Residents at the complex have been ‘shielding’ – meaning most have had little or no face-to-face contact with anyone outside the home in six weeks.

Club captain Euan Stuart explained that the club is desperate to help within the community during these testing times.

He said: “Thank you to our Touch Section for putting this brilliant gesture together and especially thank you to David Parr for organising it all. It’s always great to give back to the local community in times of need as we are all in this together.

“All organisations are struggling in this unprecedented time, but we are delighted to be able to give something back to the people of our town.”
