St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin is hopeful he will be able to give his squad a clear picture on their futures soon – as they remain in limbo until a decision is made by the football bosses.
The Saints gaffer says he is hopeful players coming to the end of their contracts - such as Lee Hodson and Alex Jakubiak whose loan spells end in Maywill be given news sooner rather than later about their fate at the Paisley club.
All players are currently playing the waiting game for news on what is going to happen to the current season.
But Goodwin, who has been in regular contact with his men, says he understands their apprehension due to the professional and financial uncertainty they are all facing.
St Mirren have put the vast majority of their playing and non-playing staff on furlough leave, but will make up the shortfall in wages.
He told Express Sport: “It’s a difficult time for the players as there is so much uncertainty.
“A lot of them are coming to the end of their contracts and we are in the same position as every other club in the sense that no decisions can be made as the club cannot commit to anything financially.”
The Scottish Premiership Football League (SPFL) has yet to make a decision to cancel the season, with clubs waiting to take their next steps.
The SPFL have agreed to terminate Ladbrokes Championship, League 1 and League 2, with final season placing determined by points per game in league matches played.
Jim hopes a decision can be made quickly to help the club support their players as best as possible.
He added: “It is a very unusual time and the players are in everyone’s thoughts here at the club while this is going on.
“We appreciate the financial uncertainty that a lot of them are facing at the moment.
“When your contract is running down it is not nice to not know what is going to happen.
“Hopefully the SPFL will make a decision quickly and we will know when we will be able to offer contacts and give players a concrete answer on their futures.”
