Saints boss gets on his milk round

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Saints gaffer Jim Goodwin swapped the dugout for the milk cart after kind-hearted Paisley cafe bosses donate hundreds of pints to those in need during lockdown.

Bianco e Nero, in Gauze Street, provides 200 pints a week to the Star Project, which is working with St Mirren’s Charitable Foundation, to make sure the most vulnerable people don’t go without.

Gaffer Jim helped with this week’s collection and has been working on the frontline to support the cause throughout the crisis.

Gayle Brannigan, chief executive of the St Mirren Charitable Foundation, said milk is always in short supply at the Star Project as she thanked Bianco e Nero bosses for their weekly donation.

She said: “Since the beginning of lockdown we have been working really hard to secure partners to donate essentials to the Star Project who distribute to the most in need.

“Milk is always very high on the list of things in demand, so I was looking for a supplier and just around that time Gary McGaw from Bianco e Nero called to say he could help.

“He donates 200 pints of milk every week to the community fridges we support, with the vast majority going to the Star Project.

“We are so grateful to him and his team for what they do and it makes a real difference in the community.

“I’d like to thank all our partners who kindly donate each week. I’m constantly amazed by the generosity people have shown throughout the lockdown.”

Gayle revealed Saints boss Jim is well and truly part of the volunteer squad she has assembled to collect and distribute donations.

She added: “Jim has been fantastic. He just said, ‘Whatever you need, I want to help.’

“He has been coming out each Thursday to make pickups and the fans love seeing him coming to the door to collect items.

“He has been really involved and is open to helping and mucking in with drop-offs and things.

“Jim has also been recording messages to send out to fans as a thank you for their support throughout the crisis.”
