Plea to trace potential witnesses of assault

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Detectives have appealed for an “older couple” who may have witnessed a woman being attacked in a Paisley street to come forward.

The 29- year- old suffered head injuries when she was targeted in the town’s Ferguslie Park Avenue on Saturday night.

Officers swooped on the scene following the incident, which happened around 8pm.

Police probing the serious assault say they are trying to work out the exact circumstances of what happened.

It is understood the victim sustained head injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Cops are carrying out a range of enquiries into the mindless attack, including checking CCTV and quizzing potential witnesses.

They revealed an older man and woman who were in the area at the time may hold the key to identifying who was responsible for the violence.

Detective Constable Colin Leggat, from Paisley CID, said: “A 29-year-old woman suffered head injuries when she was attacked in Ferguslie Park Avenue, Paisley, at around 8pm on Saturday night.

“At this time we are trying to work out the circumstances of what happened and who carried the assault.

“We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to speak to an older couple who are believed to have been walking nearby at the time of the attack.

“They may have vital information in relation to our investigation and we would ask that they get in touch with officers at Paisley CID by calling 101.

He added: “I would also urge drivers in the area to check dashcam footage to see if they captured anything which may be useful to us.

“If you have information in relation to what happened then we would like to hear from you.”

Anyone with information should phone the police on 101 .
