THE ONLY WAY IS UP

JUNIORS BOSS TARGETS PROMOTION

- RON MOORE

Neilston Juniors boss Chris Cameron has revealed the Farmer’s Boys are raring to go in the new league set up – and he’s got his eye on promotion.

The side has been placed in Conference League C under the new pyramid structure set up by SFA bosses.

But co- boss Chris said even though the club is relishing the prospect of getting back in action, Neilston will be facing many different sides for the first time under the new set up.

He said: “I terms of calling the league, they did it right and named a few sides champions based on points per game which set things going into the new structure.

“We have been placed in Conference League C in the new structure, which has a Premier League, and Conference A, B and C leagues.

“This means we are playing at the same level.

“Winners of each Conference League then move up to the next league, so this exciting for Junior football with a new league set-up and all the clubs contesting it.

“We will be going for it and attempting to win promotion from the start.”

Chris added he will calling in favours from friends in the Juniors to get the lie of the land on how opposition sides set out their stall.

He said: “We are facing a whole series of new teams in the league. Only four teams are from our old league so we will be facing many new opponents in the season to come.

“That is between 60 and 70 per cent of the sides which are new opponents, so will have to be doing a bit of digging and researching our opposition.

“Fortunately we have a lot of good mates that manage teams so we will be calling on them to get a view on what is going on.”

He added the Farmer’s Boys are in pretty good shape for their new campaign, even with the football shutdown likely to last into the summer.

But he still has a few signing targets to get the squad up to full strength.

He said: “We have re-signed 15 of players from our squad playing last season and we are still talking to a couple of the lads whom we want to keep on board as they have had offers from other Premier League clubs.

“We hope we can convince them to stay on board with us.

“We have two other lads from our Under-19s, they are trialists, and they are exciting young players who are cocky, raw and have good pace.

“So we have a squad of 17 players already in place for new season.

“But are keen to pick up a new goalkeeper, centre half, and centre midfielder to round off our playing squad.”

He added the club is hopeful of preseason fixtures some time in June to get the lads all fired up for the campaign.

Chris said: “That would be great as it is an exciting time for Junior clubs.”
