Champs can’t wait to kick off

Johnstone Burgh boss Jamie McKim is relishing the prospect of playing in the new league once the season kicks off.

‘Burgh, who were recently crowned champions, have been placed in Conference League A under the new pyramid structure for Junior Football clubs.

Jamie revealed his playing squad is champing at the bit to get back on the park and start their campaign.

The Keanie Park boss also said the new league had set up mouth- watering Derby matches against Arthurlie, who have been placed in the same league.

He said: “Our league has been set up for next year and I have to say it is a strong league with some good, solid teams that we will be playing.

“I am delighted to say we will be facing some tough opposition but we are in a good place.

“Especially a local derby involving Arthurlie.

“Another local derby for us involves Maryhill, but games against Irvine Vics and Whitletts will also be great fixtures too.”

‘ Burgh who captured the flag after their amazing run of 13 wins from 14 matches have been busy getting in shape for when the season gets the go ahead.

Jamie added he has re-signed the majority of his playing squad, with players delighted to stay on board with the Johnstone side, still buzzing at winning the McBookie.com West Region League Two title.

He said the club has also earmarked signing targets, whom he hopes to secure, before the season starts up again.

He added: “Even though we don’t have the finances or resources of the some of the bigger clubs, I am confident we will be ready from the get go.

“There is no money coming in during the current situation, but we have been doing our best to prepare and have resigned the majority of our players.

“We have also identifyin­g signing targets. The work goes on.

“I am confident in the strength and work ethic of our playing squad.

“They are just hungry to get out there and start playing again.”

The successful ‘Burgh boss added all eyes will be on Germany as the Bundesliga has announced its fixtures will begin in two weeks.

Jamie said: “We will be watching how developmen­ts in Germany filter down to the game over here, especially how it will influence decisions about junior football.

“One thing is for sure, we all just want to get back out there and start playing football again.”
