ROWAN GETS CRAFTY TO SALUTE THE NHS

WINDOW TRIBUTE IS A HIT

- CARLA TALBOT

A Paisley youngster’s colourful window decorations for key workers have proved so popular she has had requests from people all over the UK to make more.

Rowan MacDougall, seven, has been making special decorations to hang in her window to show support for the NHS and other frontline workers during the coronavirus crisis.

The Heriot Primary pupil started crafting the rainbow designs for fun with her mum Natalie.

After showing off her hard work on social media, she has had requests from 30 people - as far away as Manchester - to make them one of their own.

The hardworking girl spent two days completing all the orders, and proud mum Natalie, 28, said they are happy they could do something nice to brighten people’s days during the lockdown.

She told the Express: “We found a box of old Hama beads at her gran’s house and we decided to make some rainbows.

“I put a wee post on Facebook to show everyone what she made and a lot of people got in touch to ask us if we could make one for them too.

“Rowan did so well.

“She normally can’t sit still for that length of time but she sat for hours all weekend to get them finished.

“It was amazing to see her spending so much time to finish them.

“We have them all ready to post now, with some staying here in Paisley and some going to Argyll and Bute and even as far as places in England, such as Manchester.”

The kindhearted schoolgirl made the window decorations free of charge, and Rowan and Natalie are hoping they will be able to get some more sent out soon.

Natalie says Rowan wanted to do something to say thank you to all the hardworking NHS staff out there just now.

She added: “She knows what they symbolise and she is really excited that she has been able to do something that has made so many people happy.

“We are out clapping for the NHS every Thursday and Rowan has a pot she bangs, which she loves.

“We didn’t want to charge people for it as it was something nice for us to do together and we’re glad other people have been able to enjoy it too.”

Rowan said she enjoyed making the beaded creations, which you sort on a special board and then iron to make them stick together.

She added: “I love making these rainbows out of Hama beads I can’t wait to have a walk around and hopefully see them in people’s windows. It was hard to sort out all the colours but it was great fun.”
