Vandal smashes car with golf club
Police have launched a probe after a mindless vandal smashed up a car with a golf club in a quiet Johnstone street.
The lout broke a window of the Audi A3 motor in Ryefield Avenue in the town during the senseless wrecking spree.
Cops are hunting the man responsible for causing the damage in the incident, which happened at around 11pm on Tuesday night.
It’s understood police received numerous calls from worried members of the public in the area, as they witnessed the carnage unfold.
Officers arrived to find the car badly damaged and the suspect gone.
Inspector Kayley Teasdale, from Johnstone, Renfrew and the villages, said members of the public could hold the key to identifying the suspect.
She said: “Police received a number of reports of a man vandalising a car in Ryefield Avenue, Johnstone, at around 11pm on Tuesday evening.
“Officers attended to find the car had been damaged.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to get in touch with police.
“I’d also ask anyone driving in the area to check dashcam footage to see if you captured anything which may be useful to our investigation.
“If you have any information please get in touch.”
It’s understood there were reports of disorder nearby. Police said it is too early to link the incidents but asked members of the public to remain vigilant.
Inspector Teasdale said: “We are seeking witnesses after disturbances in Buchanan Street, McLaurin Crescent and Ryefield Avenue on Tuesday afternoon and evening. There were several reports of males brandishing weapons and bricks, but there are no reported injuries.
“We are not sure if the incidents are linked at this stage and are working to establish the exact circumstances of both.
