As millions of people across the country clap for our NHS heroes we shine a light on some of the frontline angels keeping us safe at great personal risk during the pandemic.

Medical staff at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital have been working round the clock to treat those affected and make sure people who need care for other illnesses or injuries are looked after too.

We asked Express readers to highlight a loved one who has given so much to the community and have heard many stories of selfless acts of kindness and heartache.

James Pratt nominated his sister staff nurse Debby Peacock, who works in ward 11 at the hospital.

He said: “Like her colleagues in ward 11 in the RAH, and indeed up and down the whole of the UK, who selflessly prioritise their job day in day out with 15-hour shifts not unusual, what I feel sets Debby apart is her dedication.

“That takes her into work on her days off to personally check on her patients in normal circumstances, let alone during this national emergence.

“I also know that she didn’t see her husband or her immediate family for most of April - although she or they may not feel that’s a bad thing.

“I just wanted to ask you to highlight her and her colleagues on ward 11 to show just how proud of them we all are for the sacrifices and the diligence which has no doubt saved countless lives. Not just right now on the front line, where their own lives are in mortal danger, but each and every time they proudly don the blue uniform.”

Mandy McNamee wanted to pay tribute to her best friend and stroke nurse at the RAH, Tracey Morton.
