RAIDERS CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Thieves swiped £4k of goods

- DAVID CAMPBELL

This is the moment two thieves ransacked a Paisley shop after smashing their way in through the ceiling.

The callous pair nicked cash, phone cards and cigarettes worth nearly £4,000 during the raid on the U-Save store in Well Street.

Devastated shop owner Mr Khan said he has been left counting the cost of the break-in as he revealed he is now paranoid to leave at night.

The suspects first broke in at around 9.25pm on Sunday night before returning for more loot at around 3.25am.

It’s the second time in two and half years crooks have used the derelict flat above to break into the shop

The convenience store was first

targeted in January 2018 and just six months later it was flooded when crooks tried to steal copper piping from the empty flat above.

Mr Khan told the Paisley Daily Express that he is now anxious every time he leaves at night fearing what might happen next.

He said: “This latest break-in has cost me thousands of pounds, they took cigarettes, phone cards, cash, and caused lots of damage.

“This is the third major incident at the shop in two and half years.

“It is very hard for a small business to survive when these things keep happening.

“They came in through the roof causing lots of damage.

“The flat above is derelict as it is part of the regeneration project.

“They came in the same way the first time.”

Mr Khan revealed he is now paranoid to leave the shop at night and is constantly checking hiss CCTV footage.

He added: “It’s not just the damage and loss of property.

“It is the anxiety and stress this has caused me.

“I’m checking my phone to watch CCTV all the time in the middle of the night thinking somone might be in my shop stealing.

“I’m totally paranoid now about it.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “If anyone has any information in relation to this incident I would urge them to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

It’s not just the damage and loss of property. It is the anxiety and stress this has caused me Mr Khan
