Staff working at recycling centres across Renfrewshire have been thanked for their efforts in reopening the sites and ensuring public safety.

The centres at Underwood Road, Middleton Road, Barrhill Road, Haining Road, and Miller Street joined other across Scotland in opening its doors to local householders on June 1.

Gordon McNeil, director of environment and infrastructure at Renfrewshire Council, said his staff have gone above and beyond to provide access to the sites while adhering to social distancing.

He said:“It’s no easy task managing the thousands of visits we receive to our recycling centres each week normally but having been closed for some time and in the current situation, we were prepared for it to be even more difficult.

“The work of my management team in creating and implementing the project plan, ensuring every detail was thought of, has been fantastic, as was the work to create clear traffic management at each site.

“Our teams on the ground have set the sites up brilliantly to allow quick, safe access for residents and they’ve managed the flow of traffic and directed visitors superbly.

“Residents have been following the rules to the letter which has made life a lot easier for those on site.

“My thanks go out to everyone involved for undertaking this huge piece of work in a relatively short period of time.”

The household and waste recycling centres are only open to cars carrying excess bagged household waste that cannot fit into the grey household bins.

Other recycling such as cardboard, glass bottles and cans can also be disposed of if it is impossible to store this waste safely at home.

Cars with trailers and vans are not currently being permitted to enter the centres due to the length of time it would take to empty these larger vehicles.

All those attending a recycling centre must provide proof of address.
