JOYRIDER’S TRAIL OF TERROR

- CARLA TALBOT

A yob left a trail of destruction after taking a car for a dangerous joyride on a Paisley street. Cars were left wrecked and garden fences were destroyed when the reckless racer drove the car on Chapelhill Road.

The lout drove the

black Jaguar car at speed along the quiet residential street on Wednesday afternoon, crashing into a number of parked cars before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

One vehicle was left with significant damage, while others had wing mirrors and bumpers smashed as he crashed into them.

Detectives investigating the incident say it could have been far more serious as children and families were playing in gardens on the street at the time.

Detective sergeant Euan McMillan, from Paisley CID, said: “This incident happened in the middle of the afternoon, and given the time of day it is very fortunate that it was not more serious.

“A number of families and children were playing in gardens due to the nice weather and people could have been walking on the street, so it could have been far worse than damage to vehicles and fences.

“One of the cars was left with significant damage, and two other cars were left with damage to the wing mirrors and bumpers.

“The driver also crashed into a number of garden fences which were destroyed.”

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have been on Chapelhill Road around 3.30pm on Wednesday to get in touch and help trace the suspect - who is described as a white male.

DS McMillan added: “The suspect abandoned the car and ran off, so we are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything at that time to please get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who has private CCTV to check their footage.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
