Second phase move welcomed

-

Shops across Paisley are getting ready to welcome back customers as the First Minister announced the next phase of lockdown easing yesterday.

Nicola Sturgeon said the country would start to move into phase two of its plan meaning non-essential businesses will reopen from Monday, July 29.

At the moment, only shops with street entrances and exits will reopen, meaning non-essential shops inside centres like Braehead, the Piazza and the Paisley Centre will remain closed.

The move has been welcomed by Paisley First, Paisley town centre’s Business Improvement District.

Chair Colette Cardosi said: “Our town centre businesses have been working hard to get their premises safe and secure to welcome customers back, with social distancing measures all in place. Local people relied on local businesses during lockdown, businesses have been there when people needed them most. Now we’re asking the public to be here for them.

“We have a great range of independent retail businesses – florists, jewellers, giftware, fashion, homeware and much more.

“My message to the local community is that our local business owners can offer you a safe way to shop. While many things have changed, our town centre remains the heartbeat of our local community.

“Don’t queue around the block elsewhere, support our local businesses, shop local like never before and together we can make Paisley a stronger and more vibrant town centre.”

From Monday, the construction sector will be able to start back; dentists can reopen for urgent care; professional sport can resume behind closed doors and churches will reopen, but only for individual prayer.

From the following Monday, non- essential shops will reopen as well as playparks and zoos.

Three family groups can now meet up and go indoors to use the toilet.

These outdoor meetings can include people in the shielding group.
