Greyhound rescue centre is on the right track

-

A rescue centre has received a valuable cash boost as it continues to support dogs in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Royalheart Greyhound Rescue, in Langbank, has been struggling to make ends meet since lockdown put paid to many of their fundraising activities.

Thankfully, the centre has received a £1,000 grant from the Linwood branch of Pets at Home, which was set up to help rescue centres keep their animals fed during lockdown and contribute to vet bills.

Rachel Anderson, who founded Royalheart in 2009 after years of volunteering and working with other rescue centres, believes the cash is a lifeline for the dogs in her care.

And Lesley Roberts, one of the centre’s fundraisers, welcomed the news but insists the need for donations is still greater than ever.

Lesley said:“The rescue does continue to need local help.

“We are delighted to receive this amount but we have no idea when Covid will end and therefore have no idea when we will be able to start fundraising again.

“It continues to be a worry for many rescues, especially the smaller family-run rescues with no national funding.

“We have a small amount of volunteers who love these dogs and we are keen to be able to fundraise again.

“We are always in need of donations and we appreciate every donation that we receive.

“Pets at Home have been amazing to us for many years, and we are pleased that this partnership will continue into 2021.”
