Funeral services can be streamed
A Paisley crematorium is providing comfort to those unable to attend loved one’s funerals because of lockdown restrictions.
Woodside Crematorium has started live streaming services in its chapels as coronavirus guidelines continue to stop people attending funerals in large numbers.
New technology adopted by the Broomlands Street site now allows extended family and friends to say their last goodbyes from home.
Katrina Johnston, Woodside Crematorium manager, said: “Losing someone close to you at any time can be extremely difficult, but whilst we face the unprecedented challenges coronavirus has brought to the UK, that pain and grief can be intolerable as we are unable to mourn a loved one as we would wish.
“By introducing live streaming here at Woodside, we have been able to provide the opportunity for anyone unable to attend a service to pay their last respects and provide some closure.
“What is more, those who perhaps would not have been able to attend even before the current crisis, due to living abroad or being housebound, the service has been invaluable.”
She added: “Not only has the live streamed services seen viewers from across the UK and beyond, the technology has also allowed attendees to take part with readings and eulogies.
“We’ve seen family members take part in funeral services from America to Australia and the feedback has overwhelmingly been positive.”
The crematorium has also turned to providing digital orders of service and hymn lyrics via email, so that mourners can take part fully with the funeral service.
The webcast recording is also available for up to seven days after the service, ensuring that everyone can pay their respects when they can.
