WE’LL TAKE A CUP OF KINDNESS

CAFE’S THANK YOU DEAL

- CARLA TALBOT

A coffee shop boss has came up with a simple way for customers to say thanks to those who have helped each other throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Johnstone Coffee Co, based in the town’s High Street, launched a special promotion that saw customers who bought a coffee get another one for free.

However, the condition of the deal was that they gave their free coffee to someone who has been there for them during lockdown.

Owner of the shop, Tony Marshall, hoped the small act of kindness would help spread some good cheer in the community during a difficult time.

The offer proved to be a big hit at the coffee shop, with lots of people turning up on Thursday to buy their coffee.

Tony, 26 said: “The community has really been pushed to its limits just now and it has been a tough few months for people.

“We hoped this little random act of kindness would be a nice thing for people to do to show they appreciate each other.

“People have really stepped up for each other just now when everyone needs it the most and this was just our little way of helping people to say thank you.

“We were so pleased with the response that we got.

“We were so busy all day with people coming in, which was great.”

While helping other people to say thank you, the Johnstone coffee shop - which has been open for a year - has been playing its own part in supporting people through the pandemic.

While having to close its doors to regular customers, Tony and his staff have been working behind the scenes to help those in need during lockdown.

Working together with Gryffe Rotary Club and Elderslie Butchers, they have been providing free meals to key workers throughout the pandemic.

Their efforts have also saw them give out 1,200 free school meals to children in Johnstone.

Tony added: “We just wanted to do our bit and help in the community as much as we could.

“There are a lot of people who may have needed some support and we thought we could at least help out with this by making sure school kids could get something to eat when they would normally be getting fed at school.

“We wanted to try and make things as easy for people as possible during such a difficult time.”
