COPS HALT 100-STRONG LOCKDOWN PARTY

Guests told to leave after get-together spills out of house into the garden

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Cops broke up a massive party after more than 100 selfish revellers crammed into a Paisley house in breach of lockdown rules.

Officers were called to Springbank Terrace in the Shortroods area of the town, between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning after reports of a large get- together.

It is understood the crowd gathered in the house before spilling out into the garden.

Under current Scottish Government Cov i d - 1 9 lockdown rules, people from just three households can meet indoors while maintaining social distancing.

Experts warn that mass gatherings could cause localised spikes in coronavirus transmissions and put lives at risk.

Police were called in to deal with the mindless party guests

who were asked to move on immediately.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed officers had been called to the street after reports of a mass gathering.

He said: “Police were called to an address in Springbank Terrace, Paisley, in the early hours of Sunday morning to reports of a mass gathering of people.

“On arrival, around 100 people were found to be within the property and garden area, in breach of current Covid-19 guidelines.

“One person was given a Fixed Penalty Notice under Covid- 19 legislation and the rest of the party guests were asked to leave.”

He added: “Covid-19 is still with us and government guidelines, while amended, are still in place and we need to continue to take steps to protect ourselves and the more vulnerable members of our community.

“With the improving weather there may be a temptation to relax and enjoy the outdoors but we still need to be careful.

“I would everyone to follow the guidelines set out by the government and abide by them at all times.

“They are designed to keep people safe and officers will act when necessary to ensure adherence.”
