Man held after £10k coke and hash find

A bag of cocaine and cannabis with an estimated street value of around £ 10,000 was found stashed in a Renfrewshi­re street after a tip-off to police.

Officers made the find in Loyal Avenue, Erskine on Saturday evening after members of the public spotted suspicious activity.

Cops arrived at the scene around 5.30pm and discovered the drugs haul which had been hidden from view.

The bag contained a variety of drugs including cannabis and cocaine, which police said could have sold on the street for around £10,000 had they remained in the hands of dealers.

It is understood the cache had been concealed .

Sergeant Barry McNaught from Johnstone, Renfrew and the villages community policing team said help from the public is vital in the fight against drug crime.

He said: “Officers were called to attend Loyal Avenue, Erskine at around 5.30pm on Saturday after reports of suspicious activity in the street.

“On arrival officers discovered a bag containing suspected illegal drugs, including cocaine and cannabis, which had been hidden from view.

“The item was removed and enquiries are ongoing.

“If you have any informatio­n about this incident then please contact police.

He added: “I would also ask and encourage anyone who has informatio­n in relation to drug activity in their community to speak to us.

“The public have an important role to play in tackling drug crime and we investigat­e each piece of informatio­n we receive.

“If you see any suspicious activity in your community then please highlight it to the police immediatel­y.

“If something doesn’t feel right or look right, then please report it.”

A 21- year- old man has been arrested and charged with alleged drug offences and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

He will appear in court at a future date.
