Supermarket spoils Paisley woman on her big day

- DAVID CAMPBELL

A Paisley lady has celebrated her 100th birthday in style with balloons and messages from across the country - and even a shout out on the radio.

Ina Neil got a special delivery of balloons, cake and flowers courtesy of her local supermarket as she took a walk down memory lane.

Morrisons Anchor Mills store community champion Sharon Dennison popped in to Ina’s Shortroods home on the big day to help her mark the occasion.

And it turns out Ina had a story or two to tell as she regaled Sharon with stories about her late husband Jim’s involvement with the supermarket chain.

Sharon told the Express: “Ina was so very happy to receive her 100 balloons, cake and flowers we even threw in some 100th bunting and napkins for her.

“Ina’s husband Jim used to work for Morrisons, buying our fruit and veg from suppliers.

“She was so happy when I told her I was from Morrisons and that’s when she started to tell me her late husband worked there too.

“I wished her a very happy 100th birthday from all of us at Morrison’s Anchor Mills in Paisley.

“It was an absolute pleasure meeting this lovely lady, she is a wee character.”

After posting a picture of them online celebrating with her carer Elaine Drysdale, hundreds of people wished her many happy returns on the amazing birthday.

She even got a shout out on Clyde 1 radio from George Bowie after Sharon reached out to the popular DJ.

Sharon added: “I shared Ina’s picture of her celebrating her 100th birthday on Facebook and she got over 350 likes .

“So many people wished her happy birthday too.

“She even got a shout out from George Bowie on the radio after I sent him over a picture and a wee message.”
