Conservatives step out to help bring shoppers back to our high streets

-

Conservative councillors have thrown their weight behind a campaign to support the area’s high streets as shops start to reopen following the Covid-19 lockdown.

Group leader James MacLaren and colleagues Jane Strang, Tom Begg and Bill Binks, spent time talking to traders in Paisley about how they feel the town centre could be improved following the pandemic. They did this to show backing for the party’s Support Our

High Streets initiative.

And they are now urging residents to shop locally in the coming weeks and months to help the region’s businesses bounce back following an extensive period of closure.

Councillor MacLaren, who represents Bishopton, Bridge of Weir and Langbank, said:“Our high streets are absolutely vital for the local economy right across Renfrewshire and I was proud to show my support alongside many of my Conservative colleagues in Paisley High Street.

“This has been an unprecedented time for our shops in having to close their doors for such a substantial period of time and I would encourage everyone to shop and buy local in the coming weeks and months in order to help these businesses bounce back.

“Many vital jobs are dependent on our shops remaining vibrant and we must encourage people to boost the footfall in our town centres.

“It won’t be an easy challenge, but rest assured the Scottish Conservative and Unionist group are committed to supporting our local traders and businesses and ensuring we can be innovative and bold in bringing people back into our town centres.”
