Jet2 relaunch flights from Glasgow Airport

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Holidaymakers jetted off to sunny hot spots yesterday as airline and tour operator Jet2.com and Jet2holidays started operating from Glasgow Airport.

Two flights departed from the Paisley transport hub yesterday, with customers heading for the sunshine of Zante and Kefalonia, where travel restrictions have been eased.

With demand for a well-deserved holiday, the leisure airline and package holiday specialist is to operate to 24 destinations this summer from the airport, giving customers a choice when it comes to their holidays, as well as assurance that their stay will be quarantine-free.

From onboard cleaning, ensuring that in-resort care is in line with official Covid-19 guidelines, and only travelling to the safest destinations where the company’s teams and hotel partners are, the firm insists everything is in place for a healthy and happy holiday.

Its three- step pledge to get customers back on holiday can be found at: www.jet2holidays.com/ safe-travel.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We have been saying for some time that the sun will shine again and that when it does, we will be there to take customers away on their welldeserved holidays from Glasgow Airport.

“That day has finally arrived and we were delighted to see our first flights take off.

“It is fantastic to be back in the air and recommencing our award-winning flights and package holidays to sunny destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.

“The safety, well- being and comfort of our customers is our number one priority.

“Thanks to our three-step pledge, customers are in safe hands when they travel with us.

“Through our industry-leading customer service, customers know they can rely on us to deliver everything needed to make their holiday a happy and healthy one.”

Where customers have been affected by any programme changes during the coronavirus crisis, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has been repeatedly recognised by consumer organisations and customers for how they have been looking after customers, offering refund credit notes, full cash refunds, or the option to re-book with no admin fee if their flight or holiday is cancelled.

Mr Heapy added: “These have been incredibly uncertain and difficult times for everyone, and we have been very busy looking after our customers and doing the right thing for them.

“Now, we are focused on doing what we do best – delivering award winning customer service and package holidays you can trust!”

Jet 2 is resuming flights to and from Glasgow Airport one week after the Scottish Government announced Scots would not have to quarantine for 14 days following travel abroad.

The First Minister revealed on Wednesday that people travelling to 59 countries would not be required to isolate upon their return.

Nicola Sturgeon said she would adopt the same air bridge policy that has been introduced by the UK Government.

But instead of allowing people to travel freely between Scotland and 59 other counties, the First Minister removed Spain and Serbia from the list, arguing coronavirus infections in these countries remain too high.

Anyone travelling to Spain - Scotland’s most popular holiday destination - will still be required to remain at home for a fortnight upon their return to Scotland.
