Roadworks to begin on M8 next week

-

Resurfacing work is set to go ahead on the M8 at Erskine and Bishopton next week.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will resume resurfacing of the M8 Westbound between Junction 30 and Junction 31.

The works were postponed in March under Scottish Government physical distancing guidelines. While traffic levels are still at a lower level due to coronavirus, drivers are being warned diversions will be in place.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s principal roads design engineer said: “This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working.

“It is vital that we resurface this area in order to maintain road safety.

Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and the programme can therefore be carried out safely and with minimal disruption.

“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for playing their part in protecting the country’s key workers.”

Scotland TranServ said the resumed resurfacing of this section of the M8 westbound would follow strict physical distancing protocols in line with the Scottish Government’s Covid-19 guidance.

A full closure of the M8 eastbound at junction 31 will be in place between 8pm on Sunday, July 19 till 6am on Monday, July 20 then again from 8pm on Friday, July 24 till 6am on Saturday, July 25.

Local diversions will be in place and drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
