LET’S GO FOR GLORY
KRISTEN AND AIDAN AIM TO BE TOP OF THE SCOTS
Two teenagers shortlisted for the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards are looking forward to the first ever online ceremony next month.
Social media influencer Kristen Scott and
Aidan McGrogan, from Own Yer Bike, have been commended by judges for their spirit, dedication and determination.
The youngsters, both from Paisley, will join top celebrities and thousands of people across Scotland when the winners of 13 award categories are announced in a virtual event in two weeks.
Kristen, 15, is one of the biggest TikTok social media stars in Scotland.
Her account on the videosharing app has attracted 705,000 followers, while her videos have received a whopping 26.8million likes.
The teen, who has used her platform to call out online bullying, has been shortlisted alongside three others in the entertainment category.
Aidan, meanwhile, has been recognised for his role as secretary of charity Own Yer Bike.
The 16 year old’s dedication to the organisation, which recycles abandoned bikes by teaching young people in Ferguslie Park how to repair and maintain them, has been commended under the awards’ environment category. Louise Macdonald OBE, chief executive of Young Scot, said: “We’re really excited about celebrating Scotland’s most amazing young people in our first ever online awards ceremony.
“You can expect an evening filled with the inspiring stories of young people who are doing outstanding things across Scotland.
“Aidan and Kristen have gone above and beyond in their community and we can’t wait to celebrate with them at the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards next month.”
The teenagers were supposed to walk the red carpet at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, where the awards were due to be handed out on September 7.
But the coronavirus pandemic has forced the event online and it will now be held on August 13 and streamed on Young Scot’s YouTube channel.
The star-studded event, now in its fourteenth year, will be hosted by Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney.
