Yob targeted victim who was wearing work uniform

-

A vile yob on a bike spat in a man’s face... because he works for McGill’s buses.

The 30- year- old victim was in uniform as he walked along the footpath between Incle Street and Gauze Street on Thursday evening when he was targeted.

Police revealed the disgusting thug hurled insults about the Renfrewshire bus operator before he gobbed directly on the man’s cheek.

The suspect approached his victim while riding a bike and is described as being in his 30s.

He is not known to the victim and officers said the attack was unprovoked.

The driver was unhurt in the altercation but left shaken by the ordeal.

Cops are now probing the shocking incident, which happened at around 5.30pm, and are appealing for witnesses.

It understood they are checking CCTV from the town centre in a bid to identify the culprit.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley community policing team said: “A 30- year- old male was approached by an unknown male suspect on the footpath between Incle Street and Gauze Street around 5.30pm on Thursday.

“Thereafter the suspect made reference to McGill’s buses and then spat on the victim’s face before making off. This was a disgusting attack on a member of the pubic simply going about his business.”

She added: “No- one should be targeted in this way and we are very keen to trace the individual responsible.

“He is described as riding a bike and being in his 30s.

“It is likely the area would have been busy with members of the public at this time.

“If you saw what happened then I would urge you to contact the police immediately.

“Similarly if you were driving in the area I would ask you to check dash cam footage to see if you captured anything which may be useful to our investigation.”

A spokesman said: “McGill’s will always pursue all avenues to assist the apprehension and conviction of individuals who threaten or attack our hard- working, frontline staff.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 55 11.
